Schaffer: "We've been waiting since 1993."
BABYLON – After promising 18 years ago to “to find ways to generate jobs and enhance the Long Island economy.” (Newsday, 2/15/93) Republican County Executive Candidate Angie Carpenter has yet to release her solutions for improving the economy that were again promised by her campaign sometime “after Labor Day.”(Newsday, 8/26/11) Today on a conference call with reporters, Suffolk County Democratic Committee Chairman Rich Schaffer asked where Carpenter's plans for economic recovery were:
“Just like today, when Angie Carpenter first promised Suffolk County a job creation and economic recovery plan, we had a Governor Cuomo -- but his name was Mario. 18 years later, she’s still promising and not delivering. I am asking a simple question -- where is her plan? We’ve been waiting since 1993.
“Angie Carpenter is running for the highest office in the county, and still the only thing we have heard her propose are broad generalizations like ‘cut red tape’ and ‘reduce bureaucracy’ – both ideas Steve Bellone cemented with real proposals in his plan released last month to transform government for job creation.
“Rather than attacking Steve Bellone – who has kept Babylon in excellent fiscal standing in good times and bad, improving the town’s debt rating from one of the worst in Suffolk to an A+, and giving residents a $4.3 million tax cut – Angie Carpenter owes all of Suffolk County some ideas where these new jobs and savings to taxpayers are going to come from."
Noting that Carpenter has repeatedly asked for additional staff for her County Treasurers office, only to be denied by the County Executive, Schaffer added, “The only job creation plan Angie Carpenter ever had was for the Treasurer’s office.”
